| Tina |

Meet Tina.
Tina came to rescue Saturday after the Lied Animal Shelter
dreamed her to be unadoptable. If SNPR would have not been
called, or if we had not said yes, Tina would have been
euthanized Saturday, alone, in pain, and in the shelter with
strangers. Tina was suffering from stenotic nares (tiny,
tiny nostrils, even for a pug!) and Pyometra. SNPR was not
sure what Pyometra was as Tina is our first case that we
know of to have it. After the power of "Goodsearch" and
Google, we found out that Pyometra is a very painful
infection in the uterus that if left untreated is fatal.
Luckily for Tina, and SNPR, the treatment is simply to spay
the female. During her spay our vet found that Tina was in
an advanced stage of this disease. Even one more day would
have been life threatening for Tina. During her spay, Doc
performed the procedure to open up her nostrils as well so
now that both procedures have been done, Tina is a brand new
gal with a new attitude. Living in that much pain is tough
on your personality! Now she gets to be a happy 3 year old
love pug! The disappointing fact in Tina's case is that it
is believed her former owners were treating her with a
hormone to get her pregnant. When a pregnancy did not
occur, the hormone, and cysts that occur after females are
in heat led to her advanced condition. When pregnancies were
no longer an option for this little sweetie, Tina was dumped
at the shelter.
As one of our board members
put it, "YAY for Pug Rescue!"
SNPR again would like to thank
everyone for their support of us through this tough rescue
week. The support we received for Hope was so overwhelming
and allowed us to say "yes" to taking Tina into rescue
without even considering the financial commitment it would
mean. We knew we would be fine. And so would Tina. Pugs and
"Pug People" are really the best! -Just ask Tina and Hope! |

Meet Hope. Hope has literally been
through hell and back in the last few days. Tuesday
morning Hope was found abandoned and tied to a
local veterinary office. She was in shock from pain, and
was barely responsive. After taking her into the vet's
office, they found she had a major eye injury leaving
her eye hanging from her socket, infected, bulging,
bleeding, and in need of removal before she died from
the pain and infection. If only she could tell us her
story. If she could, maybe we could understand or at
least try to understand how a pug ends up in the
condition she was found in. How could anyone tie a pug
who is suffering so badly to a door and drive away? It
is beyond comprehension to us at SNPR. Even after the
hardship cases we have seen, it never gets
easier knowing this type of abuse and neglect goes on.
This beautiful little girl has signs of multiple
litters, and what appears to be fight/bite marks. In the
next 24 hours, this poor baby will have to go through an
eye enucleation to remove the bad eye, and also some
reconstruction to her jaw to repair her teeth line. She
also needs to be spayed, get shots, and have blood work
done to see if her organs are all functioning. If she
has had this injury for more than a few days, she will
also have to be closely monitored to make sure that any
and all infections have been cleared up. At first we
were quoted $3,000 dollars to save this little girl and
we struggled with the thought of literally depleting our
bank account to save her, or letting the vet turn her
over to Animal Control which would for sure mean certain
death for her. Needless to say, we rushed over to her
and got her to our vet within the hour to get her eye
removed and get her on the path to recovery. Although we
will receive a huge discount from our wonderful vets, we
are still looking at approximately $1,500 - $2,000 to
save Hope. Hope needed
our help. Therefore, we need your help!
Please consider donating any amount of money you can to
help SNPR treat this little pug who has been through so
much. All donations are tax deductible.
We will post more pictures tomorrow, and an update on
how our little fighter does in surgery.
As always, thank you so much for your continued support!
|
02-03-10: Hope had her surgery yesterday and is
in recovery. We found out that Hope is a real fighter
and is holding her own against the odds. Our wonderful
vet believes that Hope had been suffering with her
injuries for more than 72 hours before she made her way
to rescue. No wonder she was in such shock from the
pain! After examining her Doc said he believes she is 3
or 4 years old and has had at least 3 litters. Her eye
removal surgery was a success but she is still running a
fever and being monitored for extreme pain maintenance.
Her "healthy" eye also suffered trauma and is receiving
steroids. Doc is confident that eye will heal, along
with the swelling on her head, and in her mouth. She has
two raging ear infections, and an infection in her "pug
wrinkles" that are being treated. Her ears have "fly
bites" along their edges which means she has spent her
life living outdoors and apparently making babies for
someone's profit. She lost a few teeth but did not have
to have surgery on her jaw. Just some swelling in there
now. Her blood work was good which is a relief. She is
not out of the woods, but is strong, and making
progress. SNPR's Jennifer sat with her today and
although Hope was drugged up to ease her pain, she still
wanted to nuzzle into Jennifer's arms and lean in for
pug kisses.
Her spirit is stronger than whoever did this to her.
That is the worst news of the day. Our Vet believes the
trauma Hope has suffered is from a human, and not a car,
or animal. A human. Looking at this sweet little girl
and thinking of what she has been through at the hands
of a human brings us all to tears. It has brought a lot
of us to question what kind of monsters are out there.
After sending out our plea for financial help with
Hope's pending medical bills, we were reminded that for
every monster there may be, there are hundreds of others
who feel the same way as we do about these little
creatures. So many people reached out to help us and
donate toward Hope's care. So many people sent money,
well wishes, offers of food, fostering, and even an
offer for a special new pug bed from the woman who
writes "The Daily Puglet" newsletter. The support has
been more than we ever hoped for
We realized that when we chose Hope's name, we really
found the perfect name for her. (Thanks Emily!) She
brought in more than enough money to cover her vet
bill, but almost as importantly she actually brought in,
well, Hope. Hope that she will
recover, Hope that we will find her the most
special forever home, Hope that SNPR never has
to see another case like this, but if we do, we will be
ready due to the overwhelming support we have received
in her name, Hope. It
fits her perfectly and we all Hope you know how very
grateful we are to everyone who supported Hope and SNPR.
Although we have more than surpassed our goal of raising
enough money to help Hope, and we are now confident she
will get the best care possible, we have learned all too
well that we will never be in a position of turning down
a donation.
|
|
|
|
SNPR and HOPE would like to give big pug hugs to all that
donated and sent well wishes our way. Once again your
thoughts and prayers have gotten us through another trying
rescue. We will keep you all updated on Hope as she makes
progress over the next few days. |

02-04-10:
Hope is a little Miracle pug for sure! The
difference in this baby girl in just 1 day
has our vets "scratching their heads"! Hope
has no fever today and is walking around the
office like she owns the place! We are very
pleased to announce that Hope has a possible
forever home with SNPR follower Krystal.
Krystal and her dear friend Emily (the Emily
that went and saved Hope from the vet who
found her tied up and then transported her
to our vet) went to spend some "bonding
time" with Hope today. They were both
shocked to find Hope walking, climbing into
their laps, and of course, still giving
puggie kisses. Krystal was able to spend a
couple hours holding Hope and is anxious to
take Hope home and start the rest of their
lives together. Hope still has a couple days
before she is ready for her new journey,
but after seeing her today we know there is
no way this little trooper will not recover
from her horrible past. Thanks to all of
you, Hope's future is bright! (We know this
because after spending time with her today,
Hope's new mommy was off to buy girly,
sparkly "stuff" for her!!) We get this
feeling this little girl will be one spoiled
pug.... and we can't think of any pug who
deserves it more!!!
More pictures and updates as we have them.
Pug Hugs to everyone who sent out so many
positive thoughts, its made a huge
difference for Hope!

Roland |
|
 |
 |
|
Meet Roland. Roland is now neutered, and the "cherry eye" he
had has been surgically corrected, making him a handsome six
year old. Roland lived outside for six years and has come a
long way fast. Roland is a Pug/Boxer mix. For a dog who was
never allowed inside, he loves being part of a family. He is
decent on a leash and loves walks. Roland plays ball and
loves toys. He is very affectionate and is now housebroken.
Roland is fine with other dogs and cats provided they are
not aggressive. Roland still needs more socialization; he is
intimidated by strangers who come in the home and acts out
through he is not really aggressive. due to this he'll need
to have a family that will continue to work with him on
socializing in the home and one that can anticipate this
happening for the first few hours he is placed in a new
home. He is wonderful at the vets, at the park - this
behavior is limited to the home and doesn't last long. |

Deuce and Butch |
 |
 |
|
Meet Deuce and Butch. Deuce is 9 years old and Butch is 13.
Due to the death of their dad, these too pugs are looking
for a forever home where they will get to stay together.
They have been together for 9 years and have been through a
lot of transitions this past few months. Plese consider
giving Deuce and Butch a forever home for as long as Butch
may have left. They are both loving, sweet, and calm boys
who are looking for little more than a place to snuggle. |

Calvin |
|
|
|
Here’s Calvin, he is 2 years
old and lost his home due to allergies in the family. He’s
a little overwhelmed out by his change in surroundings, but
we are confident he will flourish in a new forever home.
His little tongue sticks out a lot and needs to drop a few
pounds. More information to follow as his personality comes
out in his foster home. |

Bella |

|
Meet our newest surrender, Bella. Who couldn't love that
face! Bella is a very sweet 3.5 yr old, who came to us
because her new owner could not have 2 dogs in the apartment
they lived. She's great with other pugs, loves to cuddle
right up next you and will be perfectly content! Gives lots
of puggie kisses as she really loves to be around people!
Could you give this little girl a forever home? |

| Harley &
Flannigan |
|
|
|
|
|
Harley and
Flannigan are a fantastic pair of bonded, mature pugs.
Harley is 8 and Flannigan is 7. Both pups have grown out
of the rambunctious puppy years, and are sweet and mellow,
preferring to lounge around and sleep all day. Harley is
very affectionate and likes to be a lap dog. Flannigan is
more serious and reserved, but still very loving. Both pups
are doggy-door trained. They also know some basic commands,
like sit and stay. Both dogs are leash trained and love to
go for walks and hiking (hiking only in cooler
temperatures!) They are really not interested in young
children. Can you open your home to a wonderful pair? They
have been in rescue since March of 2009 and would love a
forever home! |
